A flecha do vau (altura máxima do vau) da canoa da picada não vem referida nos planos, mas normalmente costuma rondar os 1/50 do comprimento do vau (recta do vau). O graminho permite desenhar uma curvatura harmoniosa e se o processo de confecção é difícil de descrever a sua realização é bastante simples. Faz-se o graminho com a ajuda de uma régua e de um compasso. A régua serve para traçar a recta do vau que deverá ser dividida em 8 segmentos com a mesma distância. Desenha-se com o compasso um meio círculo em cada um dos pontos que dividem a recta, com excepção do ponto inicial e do ponto terminal, com o raio igual ao valor da flecha do vau.
